Happy Birthday to Me!

Hello! Yes, I know my birthday was yesterday but by the time things settled down here yesterday, I was pooped and just went to bed. Still trying to shake off the cold virus that I caught last weekend.
Anyway, I had a very nice birthday all in all. I took the day off from work so I was able to sleep in a bit, had a birthday lunch with a good friend of mine, got my nails done and called Mom and spoke with her for a bit. Dan and Twyla (my best friend) joined Rich and I at Granite City for dinner-unfortunately Josh had to work, and I wasn't able to get in touch with Brenda and Greg because the cell phone numbers that I have are apparently not working anymore. Not sure what is up with that, but it was a bummer not to be able to have them join us for dinner in any case. Guess I need to check Greg's Facebook page and see if I can glean any info there! For all I know they're off travelling already!

My gifts were pretty wickedly cool too! Rich bought me a new digital camera that also shoots video, Dan picked up a matching camera bag for me, and Twyla gave me some honest-to -God real French perfume that she picked up when she was in France with her students this year. It smells divine too. : ) Josh made me a card of course, and gave me an iTunes gift card so all in all, I was pretty spoiled this year! Nothing wrong with that... ha ha ha!

Today, Josh and I will be spending the day at a little carnival. He's agreed to sit outside our Optometrist's office and do charcoal sketches of people for the day, which should be very interesting. I asked him if he was nervous at all and he said "maybe a little", but I have a feeling he'll get over it quickly. I'm sitting with him in case it gets busy and he needs help. Yesterday we mounted up a few samples of what he's already done for display and I've made up some signs and postcards for him to hand out. Today, he's doing both complimentary sketches (paid for by the Optometrist), as well as more detailed ones for a small fee. The postcards are for people who might want a really detailed picture like the ones he did of Leonard Nimoy, Clint Eastwood and Audrey Hepburn. For those, people will need to prepay (through Paypal) and email him a photo that they want duplicated and then we'll mail them out. If he can do a few of these he could make a nice contribution to his car fund. Anyway, temps are supposed to be in the 90s today and mostly sunny. Right now it's raining so I really hope that moves off before 10:00 so we aren't dealing with that when we're setting up. I think we are supposed to have a tent to sit under so that will help, but the rain would still be a real pain. Charcoal and water don't mix all that well you see...
In any case, I'll be bringing my new camera along so maybe I'll have some photos to share later.
For now, I guess I should get moving. I need to make sure that we have everything we need for today plus do a little cleanup around the house here before we go.
